The trumpet is a “transposing instrument”. Tromba, of course, refers to a trumpet, whether a straight instrument of shorter or greater length, an S-shaped instrument, a folded instrument, or a slide instrument of whatever shape.

The most common cornet is a transposing instrument in B♭, though there is also a soprano cornet in E♭ and cornets in A and C. The cornet (/ˈkɔːrnɪt/, US: /kɔːrˈnɛt/) is a brass instrument similar to the trumpet but distinguished from it by its conical bore, more compact shape, and mellower tone quality.

An exception to the transposing rule is the timpani! “Timpani in D” means the drum head is tuned to that pitch it does not mean that the timpani sounds a different ptich than is indicated. If an instrument’s line has a different key signature than the other instruments, it is almost certainly a transposing instrument. Reference sources are listed at the bottom of the page….Instrument names. This a French horn tuned in G, it sounds one tone higher than the usual horn in F. If you want to study the German note names, just try the Finale Chord Style “German”.
